Joint venture is the main entry strategy used by multinational firms all over the world. It is particularly convenient for market entry in China. This presentation develops definitions, main advantages and potential drawbacks of joint ventures. It questions the performance issues and the outcomes of joint venturing strategies. The main question relates to joint venture termination: is it always a failure? A case study of a Franco-Brazilian joint venture in the telecom industry illustrates the evolution processes of a joint venture and a successful termination.
